ACDC Weekend In Review 10/10-10/12

As the first half of the Club season winds down and the players start to think about another high school season there was a bit of work to be done before Coach Sims gave them the ok to depart.

Game 1 on Friday evening saw TBU take on Florida Coast FC out of Hudson, FL. The team was a bit sluggish and after 80 minutes found themselves uncomfortable in a final of 0-0.

Game 2 on Saturday afternoon pitted TBU against Greenacres FC out of Lake Worth, FL. A good nights sleep appeared to energized the team and the results reflected such. Tampa Bay prevailed 5-0. A break down of goals and assists:

Time
       Goal                      Assist
16'      Codey Iturri           Thomas Whiting
18'      Thomas Whiting    Jhonatan Da Silva
28'      Thomas Whiting    Jerson Camacho
33'      Blake Rehl             The Other Team
64'      Eduard Huapaya    Blake Rehl

Game 3 on Sunday afternoon had TBU taking on the Spirit United FC out of Orlando, FL. Again a strong effort by the team allowed them to control the match and take the victory 4-1. Thomas Whiting crossed a beauty of a ball to Christian Del Grande in the 26th minute to get TBU rolling. Eight minutes later Jerson Camacho took care of business by himself. In the 53rd minute Edgar Pena played a stellar ball to Paul Gyorkos who immediately found Thomas Whiting in the center and Thomas buried it. To finish things off Jerson Camacho played a gem to Jhonatan Da Silva.  The win put them in to the Finals later that evening.

Finals - Sunday Evening 7:00 PM vs. Palm Beach Nomads

A great match that saw chances early for both sides. Palm Beach got on the board first. Codey Iturri got the equalizer just before halftime on a nice feed from Paul Gyorkos. The 2nd half was tight and TBU controlled the better part of the action. It took a special effort to get the game winner with 30 seconds left in regulation. Peter Andrusyszyn spotted Jerson Camacho at the top of the box and played one of pure sweetness over the top to find Jerson. The subsequent touch to control the pass followed by a cobra like reaction to striker a laser past the keeper was a fitting end to a well played first half of the season. Congrats to TBU on a well earned result.

Media access to Coach Sims was limited post game but, as any Pulitzer winning reporter does, I tracked him down for his comments on the teams performance during the 2014 Adidas Columbus Day Classic.

"It was a great weekend for the U18 Premier Boys and I am extremely proud of the professionalism the players showed in their preparation for the games and the way they remained focused with a lot of outside distractions.  Homecomings, SAT’s, Coaches Running around trying to run the tournament, injuries, etc.  The players made sure they were ready to play and were able to come away with the tournament championship.  We started slow and did not play well in the first game against Fla Coast and should have come away with 3 points.  We bounced back and were able to win our next two games easily and our performances got better and better with each game.  The final was a hard fought match against a strong Palm Beach Nomads team.  We went down 1-0 in the first half but bounced back to make it 1-1 before half.  We seemed to take control of the game and had a majority of the possession but were unable to capitalize until Jerson Camacho scored with 30 seconds to go to secure the win.  Every player on our team contributed to this championship!"
